Going into the final episode of Insecure season 3, Issa’s life is kind of a mess. She spent quite a bit of the season deciding and figuring out how to, put her relationship with Lawrence behind her, only for him to show up at the end of episode six.

So she didn’t spend that much time without him at all. She also quit her job at We Got Y’All after deciding that the company didn’t exactly practice what it preached. Her decision to try and set up her own non-profit was inspired. But she quickly learned the process was a bit more complicated than she was prepared for.

Her personal life is also in a state of flux. She liked Nathan, and he seemed to like her as well, but his disappearing act still needs to be sorted out. Could it be that he’s not really mature enough for a relationship at all? And then there’s Lawrence. Why did he come back and what will Issa do about it?

Molly spent most of the season making strides in her professional life. She found a job at a black-led law firm and thought that would immediately solve all her problems. Unfortunately, that didn’t work out. Molly had to deal with the fact that certain professional standards are standards everywhere and casual workplace sexism. She tried so hard to get accepted into the ‘boys-club’ at her new job that she may have alienated some female coworkers along the way.

The trailer for the season finale makes it clear that most of the episode will be centered around Issa’s birthday. Or at least that’s what they want you to think. Molly only appears (at work) briefly, but could she be about to get some reward for her focus (some would say tunnel vision) and hard work?
