Joe Mauer has one of the more complicated cases for Hall of Fame status. Today, we’ll debate whether he deserves a spot in Cooperstown.

For most of the 2000’s Joe Mauer was one of the premier catchers in the entire league. He was good at both sides of the coin, hitting and fielding which is a rare thing especially in the modern game.

Over the last 15 years or so he’s been one of the biggest names in the sport and rightfully so. As the 2018 season winds down, so does Mauer’s career.

Many believe that this is it for Joe once the Twins season comes to a close. He’s on the final year of an eight-year $184 million contract and with no new contract in place, it feels like this will be it for the former first overall pick.

If this is it for him, or even if his widely successful MLB career continues, the conversation about the Hall of Fame will surely come up. The debate for Mauer is a tricky one, as there’s a variety of factors on both sides that will make you think long and hard about his worthiness.

What we’ll do is present both sides of the argument, and at the end look and see which side has more leverage, just like any normal debate (except I’ll be debating myself). Let’s start off by discussing the case for Mauer getting into the Hall.
