The Boston Red Sox are the best team in baseball and should be the favorite to win the 2018 World Series. But for that to happen, everybody has to do their part.

Baseball fans in New England won’t be forgetting about this magical 2018 season for their beloved Boston Red Sox any time soon. The team has already made franchise history, winning more games this season than any Red Sox team from the past has ever won.

Sox fans have embraced lovable new characters like J.D. Martinez and Ian Kinsler, while also continuing to cheer for old favorites like Mookie Betts, Xander Bogaerts, and Andrew Benintendi. It’s been a season for the ages, but it will only be complete if the Red Sox can take care of business in October.

They are absolutely capable of doing that. They’ve been head and shoulders the best team in baseball all year long, winning more games than any other team by a landslide. As New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick would say, they just need everybody on the roster to do their job — from the hitters to the starters to the relievers to the closer.

If everything comes together, the Red Sox could be celebrating their ninth World Series championship at the end of the month. Here are five reasons why they can win it all…

5. Home field advantage throughout the playoffs

I touched on this subject earlier this week, but this will end up being a very important factor in Boston’s World Series hopes. Thanks to their 107-plus wins, the Red Sox have easily locked up home field advantage throughout the entire month of October.

This means they’ll get to open and close every playoff series at Fenway Park. Any do-or-die Game 7 they find themselves stuck in will be played in front of the diehards that make up Red Sox Nation. It might not seem like much, but something as simple as playing on your home field, in front of your home fans, can do absolute wonders in playoff games regardless of the sport.

Baseball fans in Boston are undoubtedly some of the most hardcore, devoted, and loyal fans in the world. They have the ability to lift their team up to new levels, and that becomes all the more true when their beloved Red Sox are playing in October.

Something to keep in mind: the Red Sox were in the playoffs in both 2016 and 2017, but both years they started the American League Division Series on the road. They were swept the first year, and only won a single game the second year.

The last time they secured home field advantage throughout the playoffs was in 2013, which was the last time they won the World Series.
