Mike Tomlin doesn’t seem too worried about Steelers offense

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin is confident Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown will get back on track. But, their issues may be a byproduct of the Steelers off-field circus

The Pittsburgh Steelers are in disarray, and their star players are at the root of it.

The Steelers are currently 1-2-1, and their on-field performance may be distracted from the off-field issues of Le’Veon Bell’s holdout and Antonio Brown’s behavioral issues. For the latter, the chemistry between the star receiver and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has not matched the efficiency levels of years past.

So far, Brown has been targeted via Rothlisberger 53 times, while catching 29 of those targets. Those 29 catches have parlayed into 272 yards, alongside three touchdowns. But, Brown’s yards per catch are down to a career-low 9.4 ypc. Compared to 15.2 ypc last season and 13.4 for his career, Brown’s first quarter of this NFL season is a disappointment to say the least.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, though, is confident that his two future Hall of Famers will smooth out their chemistry issues and get back on track.

"“We missed some opportunities in that game no doubt, particularly on possession downs” coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday. “I’ve seen that tandem a lot of the years. They’ll smooth it out. They’ll find their rhythm.”"

Currently, Brown ranks 34th in the NFL in receiving yards-not a standing Brown is accustomed to. Last season, Brown led the NFL in receiving yards with 1533 yards, establishing himself as the games’ best all-around wideout. But perhaps, Tomlin’s suggestion that Roethlisberger and Brown will work things out is deeper than on-the-field chemistry issues.

The Steelers for the first quarter of this season have been a mess, and their lack of cleaning up their issues have spilled over to the field. Brown has established himself as the NFL’s premier wide receiver, but also it’s top diva, too. Bell’s contract situation has become a distraction and his announcement that he’s returning during the Steelers Week 7 bye week is just a byproduct of their overall circus.

Roethlisberger and Brown are currently producing a mixed bag of results, but it appears they won’t improve at all until there is some amount of clarity for the Steelers off the field.
