DFS Golf: CIMB Classic – Primer & Course Preview

On October 11th, the CIMB Classic will kick-off at TPC Kuala Lumpur.

Golf fans and DFS Golf addicts alike should be raving about the upcoming tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This tournament has been brutal to some but very rewarding to others such as former champions Justin Thomas, Ryan Moore, and Pat Perez. The four-day grind is going to be exactly that, a grind. This course presents many challenges for professionals to overcome and should show how premier talent can handle the nature of this challenge.

The Course

TPC Kuala Lumpur was formerly known as Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club. The course is known to be a relaxing, easy on the eyes experience for professionals and members alike. The beauty of this course somewhat masks the difficulty presented. Just looking at the course, one will realize how heavily bunkered each individual hole is. The construction of the course is made to challenge golfers’ precision and accuracy and there is little room for error, unless you are a sure-thing with a sand-wedge.

Note: TPC Kuala Lumpur consists of two golf courses, the CIMB Classic is held on the West course.

The course asks for a certain finesse that only top golfers can provide. Keep this in mind when building your weekly lineups because there are only so many chances a golfer can take on this course without getting burned. The TPC Kuala Lumpur website claims that it has “an exceptional risk – exceptional reward design”. This layout is meant to give smart golfers the advantage. Kuala is more of a thought-provoking course than most others on tour.

More from FanSided

On paper, Kuala is one of the shortest courses on tour. The Par 72 set up shows a total of 7,005 yards and has four Par 5 holes.

When watching or supervising your lineup during this tournament, pay close attention to the front nine, this is where most birdies are scored. The last two holes also present great opportunities for golfers to chase their opponents’ scores.

In 2018 the course was revamped with new greens made of different forms of Bermuda grass so take that for what it is worth. Kuala has made many improvements to its course in order to keep the PGA Tour running through Malaysia.
