WR: Mike Williams, Los Angeles Chargers

After catching just one pass for 15 yards against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 4, Los Angeles Chargers No. 2 wide receiver Mike Williams was one of fantasy football’s most-dropped players. That trend could continue heading into Week 6, because Williams caught just 3 passes for 45 yards in an easy win over the Oakland Raiders.

Most of the Chargers offense flowed through Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler, and the running backs have played a huge role in the Chargers passing attack this year. Gordon and Ekeler have been highly effective, and they were always going to be the focal point against the ghastly Raiders front seven.

Williams had a couple of huge performances at the beginning of the season, but he’s fallen off lately. Still, talent doesn’t lie, and Williams is a playmaker who dominates at the catch point. Fantasy owners can’t trust that Keenan Allen will always be healthy, and Williams is in prime position as the second-best receiving option in a Philip Rivers-led offense.

The Chargers are wisely leaning on their running backs to take pressure off of their veteran quarterback, but Williams is still worth stashing away on your roster. He can go off against favorable matchups or if the flow of the game dictates he’ll have a bigger role. Against the injury-depleted 49ers and the dumpster-fire Raiders, Williams was never going to be needed. That could change against, say, the Cleveland Browns in Week 6.

If Williams becomes available in your fantasy league because another owner grew impatient after back-to-back weak weeks from him, don’t be afraid to snag him now.
