Leonard Fournette may not be available to his fantasy owners anytime soon

Leonard Fournette has done almost nil through five weeks, and now his fantasy owners may have to do without him for a while longer.

If you saw 20 carries for 71 yards on a stat line for Leonard Fournette, it would ideally be a modest single game total. But that’s what he’s done in two games thus far, leaving both with a hamstring injury, and he’s now going to miss a fourth game this week.

Fournette’s fantasy owners have already had to do without his contribution for most of the season thus far. But now, according to Florida Football Outsiders, the Jaguars are contemplating sitting Fournette out through their Week 9 bye.

Fournette was originally injured in Week 1 against the New York Giants, then missed the next two games before returning against the New York Jets in Week 4 and aggravating his hamstring injury. Hehas been ruled out very early in each of the last two weeks, so his return to action does not seem imminent anyway. Jacksonville hosts the Houston Texans in Week 7, then in Week 8 they play the Philadelphia Eagles in London. Then comes their Week 9 bye.

The Jaguars have gotten competent play out of T.J. Yeldon in Fournette’s place. Depth became a concern after Corey Grant suffered a season-ending foot injury last Sunday, and they signed Jamaal Charles this week. Making sure Fournette is 100 percent healthy for the final stretch of the regular season and a potential playoff run is important for the Jaguars, and Yeldon in combination with Charles probably allows them to be cautious with his return.

But Fournette have to be held in a bench spot by his fantasy owners, with the idea he’ll miss at least two more games on top of the four he has already missed. Then there’s the bye week, which all players have, obviously, which would render Fournette unavailable until Week 10.

There will be four regular season weeks left in most leagues at that point. So those who used a first or second-round pick on Fournette should be be ready to wait and hope for a notable contribution at the most important time of the fantasy season.
