The Atlanta Hawks are not going anywhere this season, but they are slowly building a roster that can (hopefully) compete in the East in the coming years.
Let’s be upfront with this: The 2018-19 Atlanta Hawks are going to be in the same place this season as they were the last — the Eastern Conference basement.
That might not be a bad thing, though.
Two seasons removed from the 60-plus win season that took Atlanta by storm, the Hawks are starting over from scratch, and they’re taking their time to build a roster that can compete with the rest of the East.
They will have plenty of time to get it right, as Atlanta fans will not rush them to put a product on the floor that can win now. That doesn’t mean that they don’t have pieces to win a few more games than they did last season, because they certainly do. They drafted Oklahoma standout Trae Young in the 2018 NBA Draft, and he should be their scoring ace within the next couple of seasons. To help teach the Baby Hawks the ins-and-outs of NBA life, Atlanta brought in some steely veterans that are on the last legs of their careers.
How will this roster work out? Who knows, but, what we do know is that the Hawks actually have a plan, and they’re committed to seeing it through, even if it means swallowing some tough seasons ahead.
