Expect anything in college football during Week 7 where there are three top-25 matchups and as conference play continues to burn on.

Last week, the college football world was turned a bit upside down in a week that was heavy on upsets. Seven of the teams ranked in the top 25 heading into the week were upset, some of those upsets looking worse than others. What’s more, we saw three of the undefeated teams going into the weekend suffer their first losses of the season. It was just one of those weeks, as they say.

In truth, we’re actually looking at the point of the college football season where these types of things happen. Saying that it’s a long season is cliché in the worst possible way. However, there is no denying that the wear-and-tear that every team experiences really starts to take shape when teams get into the heart of conference play. The stakes are raised and, if weaknesses have been revealed due to injuries or simple malaise, they can be exploited by familiar opponents.

Is this to say that we’re going to see more of the undefeated teams fall or more big-time upsets come around in Week 7 of the 2018 season? It’s possible, though maybe not to the tune of three unbeaten and seven top-25 teams losing. Having said that, we’re at a point where you can’t count anything out.

With that in mind, we’re most certainly not going to count anything out. Instead, we’re going to operate under the premise that anything is possible. And using that mindset, let’s get into five bold predictions for Week 7 of the 2018 college football season.

5. Baylor upsets Texas

In case you haven’t heard, the Texas Longhorns are back. All of the naysayers came out to play at the start of the year when Tom Herman’s team opened the season (for the second consecutive year, no less) with an upset loss to the Maryland Terrapins. They then stuck around after the Longhorns struggled to put away the Tulsa Golden Hurricane the following week. Since that point, however, Sam Ehlinger and the Longhorns have passed one tough test after another.

The Longhorns routed the USC Trojans in Week 3, then followed that up by taking the TCU Horned Frogs to task the next week. After grinding out a win against the Kansas State Wildcats, they then had their moment of truth last week. In the Cotton Bowl in the Red River Showdown, Texas stepped up to the plate, jumped out to a lead over the rival Oklahoma Sooners, then staved off a comeback to win in the final moments and move to 5-1 on the year.

There is no denying that, by the looks of it, this Longhorns team is indeed back and perhaps the best team to come out of Austin in recent memory. Having said that, the bad taste of Texas teams past fuels this bold prediction.

The modus operandi of disappointing Longhorns teams has been winning big ones and letting down when they shouldn’t. A matchup against an explosive Baylor Bears offense is the perfect recipe for that. This just has the feeling of a game where, now that Texas is getting all of this hype, they come out flat and get knocked off. Maybe it doesn’t happen, but until they eliminate that bad taste fully, I’m saying the upset goes down in Austin.
