Andrew Luck is keeping faith in the Colts despite slow start
The Colts are off to an ugly 1-5 start, but that isn’t preventing quarterback Andrew Luck for being optimistic about the team’s near future.
Before the season, most Colts fans claimed they’d be happy with this season as long as Andrew Luck showed he could be a healthy quarterback again. Loads of those fans have change their minds after the team’s 1-5 start. Fortunately for everyone in Indianapolis, Luck hasn’t lost faith in his teammates.
The former Pro Bowl signal caller insists he still has a “lot of conviction” about the direction of the franchise. He isn’t happy about the team’s current record, but he isn’t “discouraged” either. That’s excellent news for Colts fans who are worried about the team’s long-term direction.
The truth is the Colts were never going to be a good team this season. The front office made a difficult, but correct decision to initiate a rebuild this offseason. They’ve started to acquire some good young talent, but they are still multiple drafts away from being on equal footing with elite teams in the AFC.
That means the organization’s top priority this season really was to figure out what they had at the quarterback position. The emergence of Luck as, at the very least, a reliable starter is a huge step forward for the Colts. If he had lost this season to another injury then Indianapolis would have faced a very difficult decision on whether or not to draft a quarterback in 2019.
Now they know they can focus their resources on other positions. That drastically speeds up the team’s timeline to respectability. This roster is far from perfect, but building your offense around Luck is a pretty good place for the franchise to begin.
The rest of the year should be devoted to evaluating what other players on the roster have the potential to become building blocks. Rookies Quenton Nelson and Darius Leonard certainly look like they can be quality starters for years to come. The key for the Colts will be to add more players of their caliber next offseason.

Any Colts fans in panic mode after their team’s poor start need to take comfort in Luck’s optimism. If he can keep perspective, they should be able to do the same. This was always going to be a rebuilding year for Indianapolis. At least quarterback isn’t a position of need for them moving forward.
