This week’s episode of Manifest features weeping angels calling Saanvi and Michaela to a higher calling. Here’s your recap of “Unclaimed Baggage.”

Manifest begins with Vance ending surveillance on Kelly Taylor’s house, but he continues the surveillance on the other passengers. We flash to a board with their pictures and we see the flight attendant.

Back on the plane, the captain notifies the flight attendant that the plane has been diverted and law enforcement is meeting them, so she hurries to the locker to retrieve items from her purse.

Saanvi is at the hospital when she sees watery footprints on the floor. She looks up to see what looks to be a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who right in front of her. She changes her plans and goes to meet with a neurologist.

Ben is caught red-handed making breakfast, which shocks Grace. Cal is at the lake with his grandfather. Olive comes down for breakfast and Ben gets a quick lesson on fashion and then he tries to help with her driving lesson but she turns him away. Grace assures Ben that she’s not used to change but she will adapt eventually.

At the office, Michaela listens to the briefing report before being sent out. She has been assigned to work with Jared.

Saanvi shows scans from her own brain to her old friend without revealing that it’s her scan. There is something that shows up, and her scan is similar to that of a homeless man with schizophrenia. He’d like to see her patient, but she makes an excuse and leaves. She spots the watery footprints in the hallway before being accosted by a patient, who is quickly sedated. Before he passed out he said “It was Bethany.”

Grace gets home to find a letter from a life insurance company.

Ben meets with Saanvi, who reveals the neurologist’s results and also tells him about the statue with the wet footprints. They realize that he was talking about Bethany the flight attendant. Ben has her phone number because he has been working on a database of the passengers to see if he can find links. Grace calls and asks Ben to come home.

Michaela and Jared watch the suspect and report in to ATF. They’re going to be watching the perps for several hours so Jared suggests they get lunch. He knows she likes Italian. He remembers what food she used to order from their regular spot and they laugh at the memories. When tension builds she says she needs coffee, so he goes to get it but he leaves his phone behind.

Grace says she needs to sell her catering business. The insurance money helped pay for everything but now that Ben is alive they want the money back. They want a half million dollars. She paid for the house and Cal’s bills and the taxes and then she took out a loan to buy her business. He assures her that they will figure it all out.

Olive is getting her makeup done and her friend tells the makeup person that she’s famous because her father and brother were on the “magic plane.” She doesn’t think she has an epic life. She doesn’t get allowance anymore because her mom hasn’t given it to her so they leave. She winds up stealing a tube of lipstick and gets caught immediately.

Jared gets back and she says that he got a text from his partner about tickets to a game. He set up the whole thing to get time alone with her. She’s furious but he says he’s worried. The angel appears and says she needs to “save him” and so they go inside. They end up botching the whole investigation and Jared takes the fall for her.

Saanvi goes to Bethany’s house and asks what she did on the plane. She says a patient told her about it. Bethany knows who the patient is.

At the same time, Vance gets a report that the man who was picked up and sent to the psych ward was a stowaway on Flight 828.

We return to the plane, where Bethany gives Thomas money and clothes. He’s not a real flight attendant and she says that he should think about Leo back home. She instructs him to go into the cargo hold, jump out through the landing gear and run away.

Back in the present Bethany tells Saanvi that Thomas is her cousin Leo’s boyfriend. Being gay in Jamaica is dangerous so she brought him to New York. Thomas couldn’t get a passport in time so she had to help. She reveals that Leo disappeared while they were gone. Saanvi pledges to help them.

Ben is at his whiteboard working through the problems. He’s got paperwork out and he solves something, smiling with satisfaction, but then he finds a box of photos of Grace and Danny. Grace comes in and he explains how he fixed the problem because the insurance company had no “Flight 828 clause.” She is amazed but he praises everything she did to keep their family together. She praises his “sexy math” and they share a passionate kiss. Their moment is interrupted by a call from Olive who needs to be picked up. Ben decides to go because he needs time with her.

Michaela watches as Jared gets reamed for botching the investigation. She calls Ben and tells him what happened. When she describes the grey woman he tells her that Sannvi saw the same woman. He tells her they can’t come clean because the NSA is watching them and it would give them all away. She can’t tell him what happened.

Saanvi wants to meet the patient but he’s being moved to a state-run facility.

Ben goes to find Olive and learns that she was shoplifting. The attendant is confused because her father is already there. Danny comes out with her and he introduces himself, saying Olive called him. Ben dismisses him and then gives Olive an incredulous look. They drive home in silence as Ben recalls spending time with his daughter when she was a kid. He has no words, and neither does she.

Michaela asks Jared what happened and he’s in a lot of trouble, but he won’t let her admit what happened. He wants to know what happened in the car when she saw or heard something. He knows she’s hiding something, and he says she has to talk to someone because of all the coincidences that have been happening.

When Ben and Olive get home he calls for Grace. Before Olive runs away he asks if she has ever done that before and she says she hasn’t. He tells her when he was 15 he stole a boomerang, a really cool one. She asks why he did it and he has no reason for it other than everything in his life was out of whack so it seemed like a way to control it. His mother didn’t do enough, he says with a laugh. But she left him with “everyone deserves one free pass.” Olive breaks down and says she doesn’t deserve one. She’s not going to steal again, and she apologizes to him for calling Danny instead of him. She says Danny knows what she has done and Ben still sees her as perfect, and she wanted to keep that going. Ben tells her he loves this new person that she is and he will always be there for her. He promises to keep what happened to himself.

Saanvi and Bethany go to retrieve Thomas from the hospital, pretending to be his mother. The hospital goes on lockdown and they discover he is gone. Vance is there and Saanvi leads Bethany away as he finds out about her. Outside Michaela pulls up and they drive away, making a clean escape. Michaela realizes that Thomas would be a perfect “guinea pig” for Vance if he got caught. Bethany had no plans to meet after getting back to New York. They all discover that they were seeing the same vision, and Bethany thinks it might be the Angel of the Water from the Bethesda Fountain, from Angels in America. That was Leo’s favorite play.

Grace gets home and already knows about Olive shoplifting because she’d been talking with Danny. He feels betrayed, but Grace says he can’t understand what they went through with her. He finally says it might not be fair for him to ask Grace to leave Danny out of it. He leaves to get some air.

They find Thomas at the fountain. Bethany hugs him and Michaela wants to get out of there before the Feds come. Thomas thinks Leo is going to meet him there and he can’t believe that it really has been five years since they left. He doesn’t want to go so Michaela promises to help him find Leo. They take Thomas to one of Kelly’s buildings and Michaela goes to get supplies and find Ben.

Ben thinks is might not be worth harboring a fugitive. He thinks the “calling” might be hurting them. Maybe the voices are bad. They can’t keep blindly following the voices without knowing what they are.

Grace gets a text from Danny asking about Olive.

Jared is in his office trying to piece together what’s happening to Michaela. He has a map and he’s plotting points on it.

Manifest relies upon Ben and Michaela as reliable narrators. dark. Next
