In contrast, Barcelona are having an usually slow start to the season and are now winless in their last five league matches. This comes just a season after the Catalans went a record 39 games unbeaten in league play and nearly went undefeated last season until they lost their second last game against Levante. It is not usual for unbeaten sides to experience a dip in form after losing their streak. For instance, Real Madrid in 2016-17 failed to win four of their next 12 games in all competitions after Sevilla ended their record 40-match unbeaten streak. Barcelona have a near identical record in the same number of games and if Valverde can figure out his defensive issues ahead of Saturday’s game, one would back Barca to rediscover that invincible form.
