The Phoenix Suns looked like a different team in their season opener, but the test gets tougher as they’ll visit the Denver Nuggets.

Boy, did the Phoenix Suns look like a totally different team on Wednesday night?

In their season opener against the Dallas Mavericks, the Suns (1-0), powered by their new tandem of Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton, looked sharp, potent, and full of life as they easily handled the Mavs 121-100 in front of their home crowd at Talking Sticks Resort Arena.

Booker, who was previously doubted to even be in the starting lineup on Wednesday, continued to remind the rest of the league why he is an up-and-coming superstar, dripping 35 points and seven assists, and making it look easy. Their prized first-round pick, Ayton, looked every bit like one as he went for a double-double (18/10) in his first ever regular season game.

Booker and Ayton weren’t the only Suns firing on all cylinders that night, as free agent acquisition Trevor Ariza poured in 21 points and the bench duo of Josh Jackson and T.J. Warren combined for 35 points off the bench.

It was a game that has eluded the Suns faithful for the past few seasons, as they were used to their team being on the other end of that blowout. Now, Suns fans have a new reason to hope, and the team now truly believes that it can be a dark horse playoff contender in the West.

The road, however, will get tougher when they pay a trip to the Mile High City to face a Denver Nuggets squad that has similar playoff aspirations. Denver (1-0) is coming off of a season-opening win of their own, outlasting the rebuilding Los Angeles Clippers 107-98 in Hollywood, and the Nuggets boast a pretty impressive roster of their own, with star Nikola Jokic (21 points) leading the way.

This is the first meeting of the season between these two young guns.

The Grizzlies are doomed. dark. Next
