NFL trade rumors: Teams calling on Odell Beckham, Jadeveon Clowney
NFL trade rumors continue to swirl ahead of the trade deadline on Oct. 30, and Odell Beckham Jr. and Jadeveon Clowney are among the huge names who could be moved in the next couple of days.
This year’s NFL trade rumors are even more exciting than usual, as it seems like NFL teams are becoming more open to the idea of trading draft picks for veterans in the hopes of pushing for a Super Bowl title (or, at least, the playoffs).
The Dallas Cowboys already made waves by shipping a first-round pick to the Oakland Raiders for Amari Cooper, and the Raiders might not be done yet with Karl Joseph and Bruce Irvin swirling in trade rumors.
While Joseph and Irvin are useful players who can boost many defenses in this league, they aren’t the biggest names who could be dealt ahead of Tuesday’s deadline. According to FOX Sports’s Jay Glazer, teams have been asking about Jadeveon Clowney and Odell Beckham Jr., who are both legitimate superstars in today’s NFL.
In a pass-happy league, defensive players are becoming increasingly valuable, and Clowney is one of the league’s most dominant forces against both the run and pass. Versatile and blessed with ungodly athleticism, Clowney has been a standout for the Houston Texans whenever healthy and could be the difference-maker for a contender.
Glazer listed the Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers, and New York Jets as three teams that are looking for a big-name pass rusher. Clowney would be the biggest possible get, and he could help push the Packers over the edge. And if Clowney were to join the Rams, then the rest of the NFC may as well give up.
As for Beckham, Glazer reports that the Giants are “pumping the breaks” on the offers they’ve received for their No. 1 wideout, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible for him to be traded. The Giants already moved Eli Apple to the New Orleans Saints, and since Beckham has been outspoken about the Giants struggles this year (and rightfully so), the rebuilding Giants could decide to move him if they get enough draft picks.
Per Glazer, Giants sources noted that the offers for Beckham were “decent”, so if someone decides to upgrade their offer and a bidding war breaks out, this could be a situation to monitor heading into Oct. 30.
Glazer listed the New England Patriots as a team interested in adding a true playmaker at the wide receiver position, even though they already traded for Josh Gordon this year. Perhaps they could be a team angling for Odell. They aren’t known for breaking the bank, but they have made bold moves for wide receivers before.
All told, this is shaping up to be an exciting trade deadline, especially if teams are serious about acquiring Clowney and Beckham.
