8. Matt Ryan (LW: 7)

Ryan has been keeping the Falcons afloat despite myriad injuries to the defense. Atlanta is 3-4 and coming off its bye week, and yet Ryan has already thrown for 2,335 yards, fifth-best in the league. If the Falcons are going to make a move over the final two months, it’ll be on Ryan’s arm.

7. Jared Goff (LW: 6)

Goff is the leader of an undefeated Rams team, and he’s playing on a top-notch level. The third-year pro has thrown for 2,425 yards on an absurd 9.59 yards per attempt, best in the NFL. So why does he only rank seventh? Los Angeles doesn’t ask a ton of him, and Todd Gurley takes ample pressure off. Still, Goff has been excellent.

6. Philip Rivers (LW: 5)

Rivers comes off the bye week to face the Seahawks in the Pacific Northwest, hoping to keep the Chargers on pace to make the playoffs. Los Angeles needs Rivers to continue his greatness, throwing for another 2,008 yards and 17 touchdowns against only three interceptions. It’s been a fantastic campaign for the 36-year-old.

5. Russell Wilson (LW: 10)

Wilson deserves to be in the MVP conversation. Against the Lions, Wilson threw 17 times for an astonishing 248 yards and three touchdowns, giving him a gaudy 8.55 YPA and 16 touchdowns through seven games. His receivers? Doug Baldwin and a bunch of nobodies, and yet Seattle is in a playoff spot going into Week 9.
