I really hope you listened to our advice and picked up Courtland Sutton before the Demaryius Thomas trade. Let’s see what we can find at the bottom of the Waiver Wire barrel this week.

Hello and welcome to another weekly edition of Fantasy CPR’s Waiver Wire Scraps column. Every week after the majority of season-long football league’s waivers have processed we recommend you pick up and stash because they can seriously help your team in the long haul. I am assuming, that you are still in playoff contention or chasing the #1 pick for next year. Every week when this column is published, I always try to advise all fantasy owners to never give up on your season. Even if you still haven’t found your first win this year, you can learn a lot through practicing. This will also help show your commissioner your dedication to the league. So please, if you aren’t looking towards the playoffs, please chase a better second half of your season.

If you are looking towards the playoffs, never be content with your team. While you might not want to make too many blockbuster trades, it is important that you always create more opportunities to have a better team than before. Injuries strike fast.

Two things to make sure of:

Always make sure you check who your opponents have dropped, another team owner may have dropped a talented player for a bye week tool.

If you are facing elimination from playoff contention, try to buy wins now. This also means throwing season long value out the door sometimes. You’re team could still be successful in the long run, it’s just important to get you’re head above water first.

Now let’s see what we can find in the bottom of the barrel.

Waiver Wire Quarterbacks

Case Keenum

Keenum has been quite the disappointment this year for fantasy football. His season last year propelled the Broncos to have faith in him to guide this offense. It seemed like all of the oppressed Jeff Fischer Quarterbacks were going to be amazing in other offenses. Goff is legit, Keenum is a burnt out firework. He also has recently lost one of his tenured receivers after the Texans traded for Demaryius Thomas. All of these things being said, it would not surprise me if Keenum had a fantasy relevant second half of the season. He has regressed down to a 63.9% completion percentage, which is around 2.5% lower than last year. This isn’t an insane drop, he is still completing a decent amount of his passes. The rest of his season after next week’s bye consists of @LAC, Pit, @Cin, @SF, Cle, @Oak. These are all match-ups that can help Keenum keep his job next year. While DT is gone, I honestly think Keenum will have some touchdown regression back to the norm and makes a good deeper league stash for QB needy teams.

Derek Carr

Carr made the column last week, flexed his abilities to the fantasy world against the Colts, and is still only owned in 17.5% of ESPN leagues. He is a proven talent for both fantasy football and real football, who has a great rest of season schedule. If you would like to read our last write-up on Carr’s rest-of-season value. Feel free to check out last week’s column. He is my top candidate for a QB stash.

Honorable Mention: Joe Flacco (Owned in 32.5% of ESPN Leagues) has a great rest of season schedule and is leading a team chasing a playoff spot.

Waiver Wire Running Backs

Devontae Booker

This one might seem painful for people, but look, Booker was once the hot topic in Denver when C.J. Anderson would go down with injury. This past week he proved that he could still be half of what fantasy owners always wanted him to be. With Royce Freeman banged up, Booker touched the ball 13 times for 101 scrimmage yards. If you factor in a touchdown, that puts booker at 18.1 fantasy points in a Half PPR league. That is very attractive for a back that is only owned in 12.3% of ESPN leagues. If you’re looking for wins now, Booker could be a great pick up.

D’Onta Foreman

Foreman is currently still not at practice but this is a complete upside pickup. This would be one of my targets if I am undefeated because I can probably afford to wait for the breakout. Foreman is a very talented back, looking to earn some playing time on a team that clearly has committed to running the football. He should be back practicing soon, so it would be smart to buy now, while the hype is low.

Waiver Wire WR/TE

Cordarrelle Patterson

I never thought that during this fantasy season I would be talking about Cordarrelle Patterson as a fantasy relevant pass catcher. He then signed with the Patriots. He has too much raw speed and open field skill to not be utilized in a Bill Belicheck offense. Kenjon Barner was supposed to be the second guy on Monday for the Patriots right? Nope. It was Cordarrelle Patterson who rushed the ball 10 times. If you can add a few receptions to that total, he could seriously be a relevant WR3. This is for deeper leagues, until Sony Michel gets back.

More from FanSided

Tre’Quan Smith

Here is another rookie wide receiver who is oozing talent. The loss of Ted Ginn is going to allow Smith to see the field a ton, and he is the definition of a “big-play” guy. In a high-flying Saints offense Smith has a ton of upside downfield, scoring touchdowns for a ton of fantasy points. He has been a hot name within the fantasy community and is still only owned in 16.1% of ESPN leagues. Smith is still cheap. Go get him now.

T.J. Jones

Jones is someone who I have always seen and wondered if he would ever get the opportunity to show his full potential. The departure of Golden Tate is this opportunity. Tate was mainly a slot receiver, which TJ could slide right into and be a perfect fit. Often times, I have had Marvin Jones on my fantasy team, felt excitement that a man with the name “Jones” on their back and realized that it was TJ Jones. He is pretty much not owned in most leagues, so give him a look.

Jeff Heuerman

The fourth year tight end should see an increase in usage over the next few weeks without Demaryius Thomas. The tight end position is horrible and the Broncos have a great rest-of-season schedule. Heuerman could help teams who are desperate for a tight end.
