Burning questions for college football Week 10, including whether the LSU Tigers can pull off the monumental upset of No. 1 Alabama.

Week 10 of the college football season has a variety of top 25 matchups that will be major deciding factors for how the College Football Playoff committee determines next weeks rankings. The SEC provides two top 10 games with Georgia battling Kentucky for the SEC East and Alabama against LSU for supremacy in the SEC West. West Virginia looks to get a key resume victory at Texas, while Penn State goes to the Big House to try and take Michigan out of the playoff picture.

Who moves into the Top 10?

No. 13 West Virginia. West Virginia is the lowest ranked one-loss Power 5 team in the country. The playoff committee placed them behind a two-loss Florida team and an undefeated UCF team. The Mountaineers have a great chance to get a signature victory this weekend against a Texas Longhorn team that was considered a top seven team in the nation at this time last week. With an impressive performance by quarterback Will Grier, look for the Mountaineers to jump up into the top 10.

Will Houston quarterback D’Eriq King add to his Heisman campaign?

Yes, he will. D’Eriq King is having a dominant year that has led the Houston Cougars to 7-1 start where they are averaging nearly 50 points a game. After taking down undefeated USF last week, King and the Cougars are going up against a 3-5 SMU squad that is giving up 36 points a game, along with 238.5 yards passing. Watch out for King to continue to cause Heisman buzz with another stellar performance.

Can LSU pull off the upset against Alabama?

No, they can’t. The Crimson Tide have been too dominant this season led by Heisman front-runner Tua Tagovailoa. The offense has averaged 564.3 yards per game and 54.1 points, while the defense has held opponents to just under 16 points per game. The LSU offense does not have the consistent firepower to keep up with Bama, leading the Crimson Tide to get another win in the quest to remain the top team in the nation.

What unranked team will be in the top 25 after a major upset?

The Northwestern Wildcats. Northwestern has had a crazy up and down year so far this season that has led them to somehow being in sole possession of the Big Ten West with a 5-3 record. The Wildcats have been on a four-game winning streak after a loss against Michigan, so a win against the unbeaten Notre Dame Fighting Irish this weekend will push Northwestern into the top 25.

Will the SEC continue to dominate the CFP top 25?

Yes, they will. The SEC has seven teams currently ranked in the top 25 and that number will not go down after this week. Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Kentucky, and Florida will all be ranked with wins or losses. Mississippi State should be secure with a game against Louisiana Tech this week. The only team in question is No. 20 Texas A&M. With a loss, the Aggies will fall out of the rankings, but Auburn would most likely jump into the top 25 as a 6-3 SEC team.
