With marquee matchups galore throughout college football on Saturday, it’s time to offer up five bold predictions for Week 10 that embrace the chaos.

One of the great things about college football is the notion that anything can happen in a given week. With the amateurism of the sport and the youth in play with these athletes, the level of variance is simply higher than in almost any other sport. And due to that, one week can make everything change, even when you don’t see it coming. On the other hand, though, there are the season-defining weeks that you can see coming.

Week 10 of the 2018 college football season is a week that falls in the latter category. When the regular season has finally subsided and we’re looking ahead to the postseason action and how things will shake out, the results that transpire in Week 10 are going to be among the ones that heavily color the end results.

That, of course, begins with the huge matchups that are on the docket on Saturday. Headlined by top-ranked Alabama taking on third-ranked LSU, there are two top-10 matchups, three top-15 matchups and four top-20 matchups that fans will be treated to on Saturday throughout the day. And that’s just the beginning with other ranked teams squaring off with dangerous opponents.

With such a week of college football action before us, it’s only fitting that we lean into the potential chaos that could transpire and try to predict a bit of the madness that will occur. Subsequently, here are five bold predictions that are sure to come true for Week 10 — but if they don’t, you didn’t hear them from me.

5. AJ Dillon rushes for 200 yards, two touchdowns

Through the first five weeks of the season, there were few running backs in all of college football that were quite as exciting to watch as Boston College Eagles sophomore AJ Dillon. In just five games, Dillon rushed for 652 yards on only 106 carries while finding the end zone six times. Put simply, he showed everyone why he already has some people looking ahead to the 2020 NFL Draft when he’ll be eligible to head to the pro level.

However, Dillon’s season was then mildly derailed due to injury as he was forced to sit out of the NC State and Louisville games with an ankle ailment. Thus, Dillon somewhat fell out of the public eye as he wasn’t on the field and, in the process, the Eagles suffered a tough loss to the Wolfpack.

However, Dillon returned last week in an early-week matchup against the Miami Hurricanes and made a massive impact in his return. The sophomore carried the ball 32 times in the game and controlled the action as he rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ 27-14 upset victory over the Canes.

On Saturday in Week 10, Dillon and Boston College are heading to Blacksburg for a tough matchup against the Virginia Tech Hokies. While it’s a tough overall matchup though, the rush defense for the Hokies has been suspect, as showcased last week when Georgia Tech’s triple option attack ran wild over them.

Subsequently, Dillon is going to continue to announce his presence back on the field and do so with a season-best performance, topping the double-century mark and securing his Eagles’ spot in the top 25.
