Sam Bradford’s stay in Arizona was even shorter than expected

Sam Bradford only started in three games for the Cardinals, and only lasted half a season before being released.

We all knew quarterback Sam Bradford wouldn’t be sticking around in the desert for a long time. The Arizona Cardinals signed him ahead of the 2018 season to help them pass the time until rookie Josh Rosen, their selection with the 10th overall draft pick and their quarterback of the future, was ready to compete against NFL competition.

But all in all, it wasn’t much of an experience to write home about for Bradford. He started the first three games of the season, losing all of them. At the tail end of their Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, the Cardinals decided to forget about giving Rosen a season on the bench. They put him into action in the fourth quarter, and he’s been starting at quarterback for the Cardinals ever since.

Finally, after eight whole weeks, the Cardinals have no more use for the veteran Bradford, and they officially released him. We knew his time in Arizona would be short, but did anybody think it would be this short?

It seemed likely that Bradford would be around for at least the entire 2018 season. Rosen dealt with his fair share of injuries while playing college football at UCLA, and the chances of him actually being NFL-ready at any point this year didn’t seem good. Even though Bradford has never been an overly exciting quarterback, he seemed like a reasonable choice to play quarterback this season while Rosen adjusted to the professional game.

But it only took three games for the Cardinals to realize they didn’t want to watch Bradford play anymore. During his three games, he only threw two touchdowns and four interceptions. Rosen might be an extremely raw rookie, but it’s not like he or the Cardinals had anywhere to go but up.

As he is now without an NFL home, there is no doubt Bradford has seen better days in this league.
