It’s the halfway point of the NFL season. And all eight division leaders were in action on Sunday. Were there any changes in the standings?

It was yet another fascinating week in the always-interesting National Football League. Six teams had the week off and the Tennessee Titans visit the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night. But all eight division leaders were in action on Sunday and six of those clubs came away with wins.

So was there a big change in the NFL standings this week? Call it status quo.

AFC East: For the fifth time in six games, the New England Patriots put at least 31 points on the board. The 14-point victory over the visiting Green Bay Packers was the club’s sixth straight and enabled them to making their two-game lead in the AFC East. Meanwhile, the New York Jets made it three straight losses and the Buffalo Bills dropped their fourth game in a row.

AFC North: The Pittsburgh Steelers maintained their slim hold on first place in the division thanks to a fourth consecutive win, a 23-16 triumph at Baltimore. The Ravens have now dropped three straight games after a 1-3 start. The 5-3 Cincinnati Bengals were off this week while the slumping Cleveland Browns, now under the command of interim head coach Gregg Williams, fell for the fourth straight week – a 37-21 home loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

AFC South: Bill O’Brien’s team escaped Denver with a 19-17 victory, the team’s sixth straight win after that 0-3 start. As previously mentioned, the Tennessee Titans – losers of three straight games – head to Dallas on Monday night. The slumping Jacksonville Jaguars and surging Indianapolis Colts had the week off.

AFC West: Kansas City’s 43-30 loss at New England was a small bump in the road as Andy Reid’s team has now reeled off three straight wins, the latest a 37-21 triumph at Cleveland. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers remained in hot pursuit, holding on for a 25-17 victory at Seattle. On the other hand, the Denver Broncos (3-6) and Oakland Raiders (1-7) have combined for four wins.

NFC East: When the Washington Redskins have lost this season, it’s been ugly. Such was the case on Sunday as the Atlanta Falcons rolled into FedEx Field and handed Jay Gruden’s team an ugly 38-14 setback. And if the Dallas Cowboys can defeat the Titans on Monday night, they and the Philadelphia Eagles will own 4-4 records and be just one game out of first place in the division. The New York Giants were off in Week 9 (no jokes please).

NFC North: While the Chicago Bears (41-9 over Buffalo) and Minnesota Vikings (24-9 over Detroit) used smothering defense to win on Sunday, both the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions each dropped their second consecutive game. Mike McCarthy’s team is winless on the road this season (0-4) and came apart in the fourth quarter of a 31-17 setback at Foxborough.

NFC South: The division that sent three teams to the playoffs a year ago may be getting ready to do it again. The New Orleans Saints (7), Carolina Panthers (3) and Atlanta Falcons (3) are all on respectable winning streaks. On Sunday, those clubs put 45, 42 and 38 points on the board in wins over the Rams, Buccaneers and Redskins, respectively. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now 1-5 after their 2-0 start.

NFC West: It took nine games but the Los Angeles Rams finally lost a game as they were outgunned at the Superdome, 45-35. Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks were cooled off by the Los Angeles Chargers, 25-17, so Sean McVay’s team maintained its hefty lead in the NFC West. The Arizona Cardinals were off, while new household name Nick Mullens led the San Francisco 49ers to a 34-3 win over the Oakland Raiders on Thursday night.
