This week on the Over and Back Classic NBA Podcast, Jason and Rich attempt to circumvent Pat Riley trademarks and discuss failed attempts at winning three NBA championships in a row. There’s no question the Golden State Warriors are favorites to three-pe… win three championships in a row this year but if they are unsuccessful they will join a list of other historic teams that got close to the three-in-a-row but couldn’t seal the deal.

Teams discussed include the 1951 Minneapolis Lakers, 1970 Boston Celtics, 1989 Los Angeles Lakers, 1991 Detroit Pistons, 1996 Houston Rockets, 2011 Los Angeles Lakers and finally, the 2014 Miami Heat. We look at each of these teams, the makeup of the teams that got them to two straight titles and what changed in year three including roster changes, coaching changes, internal turmoil, new uniforms and much more.

We talk about the aging Miami Heat core and the end of the LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh Big 3, the meltdown of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dallas Mavericks inability to miss a three-pointer, Houston changing uniforms after two straight championships, the Pistons walking off the court against Chicago, Pat Riley’s inability to honor his own trademarks, the retirement of Bill Russell and Sam Jones and much more.
