Nathan Peterman is taking yet another demotion

The Bills are replacing Nathan Peterman with Matt Barkley, officially making it the third time Peterman has been replaced this season.

It’s been a very inglorious career in the NFL thus far for Nathan Peterman, and it’s really hard to imagine it getting any better for the kid.

He initially started the 2018 season as the starting quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, but he has since been replaced in that role three times. This time, it’s Matt Barkley getting the nod instead of Peterman as the Bills get ready to face the New York Jets on Sunday.

As much as you want to feel bad for Peterman, it’s really not a surprise. He’s currently in his second season in the NFL, and just about every time he’s set foot on the field, he’s been nothing short of awful. Last week’s game against the Chicago Bears was just another example; Peterman got the start and didn’t throw a single touchdown, but he did throw three interceptions, including a pick-six, as the Bears steamrolled the Bills 41-9 in Orchard Park.

This has been the story of Peterman’s career. The Bills drafted their franchise quarterback Josh Allen in the 2018 NFL Draft but planned for him to get some time on the sidelines as he adjusted to the NFL’s level of competition. But Peterman was so bad in Buffalo’s season opener in Baltimore that the Bills quickly decided to replace him with the rookie.

After Allen injured his elbow, the Bills briefly went back to Peterman before replacing him once again with veteran Derek Anderon, whom they had just signed two weeks prior.

Being a quarterback in Buffalo is never easy because Anderson only started a couple of games before being hit with a concussion. Peterman got one more chance to start against the Bears, but as mentioned earlier, it didn’t go very well.

Now, it’s Barkley’s turn to take Peterman’s place, and he’ll be getting the start just 12 days after joining the Bills. The team’s mindset behind choosing to go with Barkley has to be pretty simple: it can’t get any worse.

After being demoted three times this season, you have to wonder how much longer the Bills will continue to keep Peterman on their roster. To this point, he’s done absolutely nothing but take up space.
