Baker Mayfield just threw a ridiculous touchdown (Video)
The Cleveland Browns jumped to an early lead against the Atlanta Falcons, thanks to an impressive drive that was capped by a fantastic touchdown pass from Baker Mayfield.
Though the Cleveland Browns failed to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs, one of the Super Bowl favorites thus far, the offense showed signs of life in Gregg Williams’ first game as head coach. Baker Mayfield found a new favorite target in running back Duke Johnson, leading many fans to have hope that the Browns could produce a strong Week 10 outing against the Atlanta Falcons.
Cleveland did indeed begin the game on a high note, with Mayfield marching down the field with ease. He made usage of a variety of targets, even hitting Breshad Perriman for a chunk gain on the right sideline to get the drive started.
Mayfield saved his best throw for last, hitting breakout wide receiver Rashard Higgins in the right side of the end zone for a touchdown toss. Footage of Mayfield’s pass, his 11th touchdown of the season.
With Higgins healthy and Johnson emerging as a key part of the offense, Mayfield finally seems to have a full slate of pass-catching weapons. Jarvis Landry is the Browns biggest name on offense and David Njoku can make plays as one of the best young tight ends in the league, so Mayfield has a chance to keep producing bigger and bigger numbers in the second half of the 2018 season. His talent has never been called into question as the No. 1 overall pick and former Heisman winner.
Mayfield started his game against Atlanta outdueling Matt Ryan, completing all of his first seven pass attempts for 98 yards and that 28-yard touchdown to Higgins. His command of the offense and understanding of each receiver’s route tree is impressive, and Mayfield visibly switched his read to Higgins when he realized he didn’t have an open throwing lane for Landry on the left side.
Ryan and the Falcons offense are among the NFL’s most formidable, but Mayfield looked ready to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, and Tevin Coleman, especially now that he’s found a comfort level with the coaching staff and skill position talent around him.
