Week 1 of the college basketball season has come and passed and some big games, namely the Champions Classic, will dictate the new AP Top 25.

The opening week of the college basketball season didn’t quite have the elite matchups that football seems to have, but there will be plenty of time for top 25 matchups.

Fortunately, the opening week had the Champions Classic to fall back on. Unfortunately, the games weren’t all that competitive — at least one of them wasn’t. Michigan State almost completed a furious comeback to upend No. 1 Kansas but fell short, 92-87. The Jayhawks’ freshmen, and Memphis transfer Dedric Lawson led them past the No. 10 Spartans.

Kentucky, the nation’s No. 2 team, took on No. 4 Duke, but the rankings seemed to be reversed as the Blue Devils dominated from start to finish. Like Kansas, the Blue Devils’ stud freshmen were the difference as Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish led Duke past the Wildcats, 118-84. It looks like the Blue Devils may be the early national title favorites.

There was one shocking upset that may knock a power conference team from the top 25 as Buffalo went on the road to take out No. 13 West Virginia in overtime. Bob Huggins has his work cut out for him as he’ll need to steer the Mountaineers away from a total letdown in 2018-19.

Week 1 wasn’t completely shocking, in terms of results, but we could see some movement in the latest version of the AP Top 25.

Let’s see what the AP Top 25 should look like after the first week of action.
