Miguel Andujar isn’t a piece the Yankees should part with lightly. He should only be moved if Brian Cashman can acquire one of these five aces.

Yankees fans on social media are up in arms over Shohei Ohtani’s victory over Miguel Andujar in this year’s AL Rookie of the Year voting. In truth, Andujar has much more important things to worry about. Mainly, he needs to be concerned with whether or not he’ll still be a member of the New York Yankees when Spring Training arrives.

Andujar isn’t a perfect player, but he has big time star potential. As a result, he’s a player who can net Brian Cashman a big haul in a trade. The Yankees will absolutely be tempted to move him this summer if the right player becomes available. In almost every instance, Cashman and company should resist the temptation to part ways with Andujar.

The only way the Yankees should allow another team to swoop in and acquire Andujar this winter is if a legitimate No. 1 starter is coming to the Bronx in return. There aren’t really many of those pitchers in baseball at the moment. The group of them that might be available in a trade is even smaller.

In this piece, we’ll walk you through five aces who might hit the open market. Using Andujar as a centerpiece in a trade for any of these five stars would be solid business for Cashman. Swinging a deal for anyone on this list won’t be easy, but that’s why Cashman gets paid the big bucks.

5. Jacob deGrom

We openly acknowledge that the chances of the Mets making a landmark deal with their crosstown rivals are pretty remote. Even so, a deal centered around sending Andujar to Queens in exchange for deGrom makes some sense for both sides.

The Mets aren’t close to being contenders. Adding a young, controllable bat like Andujar would give them a solid offensive piece to build around. In many ways, they owe deGrom a departure. He’s been a good soldier for the organization through some really lean years.

Moving to the Yankees would give him a chance to win a World Series ring while he’s still at the top of his game. He would easily slot into the top of Aaron Boone’s rotation. Anything close to last year’s performance would be a huge boost for the Yankees. Pitchers who throw 217 innings with an ERA of just 1.70 don’t grow on trees. The odds of this deal happening are incredibly small, but the Yankees would include Andujar in a deal for deGrom with zero hesitation.
