Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters on Nov. 16, but when can we expect the third addition to the latest Harry Potter franchise?

It’s finally here!

The second installment of the Fantastic Beasts franchise, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is in theaters on Nov. 16.

However, immediately once you watch this film, you are probably wondering when the next addition to the Harry Potter universe comes out?

The third Fantastic Beasts movie is scheduled to be released on Nov. 20, 2020. Yes, that’s two years from around the release of The Crimes of Grindelwald, but it is the same amount of time between Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Nov. 16, 2016) and the release of the second Fantastic Beasts film.

But what can we expect from Fantastic Beasts 3?

I think it is pretty easy to say that the third film will be the darkest so far, with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them being an introductory film (like Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and The Chamber of Secrets). Subsequently, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will be like The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire, as more darkness is revealed and we begin to see Grindelwald’s plan truly start to form. The next Fantastic Beasts film will be where things start to unravel. The darkness is here, and Newt and the others must begin to face it while figuring out how to defeat Grindelwald.

In a five-film series, the third and fourth films (unless it is a two-part finale) are usually the ones in which the bad guys win. I liken this to The Order of the Phoenix and The Half-Blood Prince, as we both see Harry and the good guys take significant losses in the build-up to the final showdown with Voldemort.

Sure, this is just a theory, but I have a feeling that things begin to get slightly less campy with The Crimes of Grindelwald and things begin to get very dark, very fast.
