The new look Philadelphia 76ers are looking rather potent, and they’ll bring their new “Big 3” to Charlotte to take on the Hornets on Saturday.

When it was announced that Philadelphia 76ers GM Elton Brand had made the trade to bring in Jimmy Butler, there were cheers, and also skeptics.

How would Butler’s ball-dominate game fit in with Joel Embiid?

Will the trio of Butler, Embiid, and Simmons even work?

Those questions were put to rest on Friday when all three worked in team harmony to dispatch the Utah Jazz at home. Now, they’ll get another crack at making the new-look teamwork on the road when they visit the Charlotte Hornets tonight to wrap up a back-to-back.

After being tentative in his first game as a Sixer, Butler showed his game against Utah, leading the team with 28 points on 12-15 shooting from the floor. Embiid was his usual dominant self, scoring 23 points and blocking three shots, and Simmons continued to look like Magic Johnson, dishing out eight assists and grabbing eight rebounds to go along with 10 points.

It was a total team effort against the Jazz, and they improved their home record to 8-0, the only team in the league to not have a home defeat.

Where the Sixers have had problems are on the road, where they are a paltry 2-7, but they have won two of their last three road contest, and they’ll get a chance to extend their good road fortunes against the Hornets.

As for Charlotte (7-7), the Bugs are having another topsy-turvy season, alternating between wins and losses in their last four games. Their last outing was a complete disaster, getting blown out 113-89 to the lowly Cavaliers. Kemba Walker continues to lead the Hornets (26.4), but inconsistency from the rest of the lineup, coupled with some bad play on the road (3-5), has Hornets fans scratching their heads at this team.

The Hornets matchup against the Sixers will kickstart a three-game homestand, where they are a respectable 4-2 in the Queen City. After Philly, Charlotte will entertain the Celtics and Pacers before going back on the road.
