Once upon a time, the Raptors were considered the team to beat in the East. They head into a matchup with the Bulls on a three-game losing streak.

Maybe we were too premature to anoint the Toronto Raptors as the best team in the Eastern Conference.

After a blistering 12-1 start to the 2018-19 NBA season, many pegged the Raptors as the squad with the best chance of making it to the NBA Finals out of the re-tooling East. But a three-game losing streak has put some chill into that assertion, and now, Toronto is searching for an answer to end their recent slide.

They hope the answers lie in the Windy City, where the Raptors will be in town to play the rebuilding Chicago Bulls tonight.

After losing their last two games of a three-game homestand, Toronto opened a four-game road swing in Boston, where they took the Celtics to overtime, but fell victim to the wizardry of Kyrie Irving and was defeated 123-116. Kawhi Leonard led the way with 31 points, and Serge Ibaka and Pascal Siakam chipped in with 21 and 16 points, respectively.

While the offense isn’t an issue for the Raptors, their defense is leaving something to be desired, and they hope to find better intensity on the defensive end against the Bulls (4-12), who return home after a bruising two-game road trip to open a three-game homestand.

Life was not kind to the Bulls on that quick road swing, who were blown out in both Boston and Milwaukee. There early lumps to the season were to be expected, however, as they try to piece together the foundation for future success. Those pieces are firmly in place with Zach LaVine, Wendell Carter Jr., and Jabari Parker, the latter of which scored 20 points on 7-12 shooting, including six three-pointers at the Bucks.

After the Raptors, the Bulls will entertain the Suns and Heat on this homestand.
