College football’s attention turned to Orlando as UCF hosted College Gameday and the ABC Primetime game in Week 12. The Knights made a compelling CFP argument with a 38-13 win over previously 9-1 Cincinnati.

For a team desperate to catch the attention of the College Football Playoff committee, Week 12 couldn’t have worked out any better. The Central Florida Knights got national attention from morning to night last Saturday, and put an emphatic stamp on the day with a 38-13 blowout win over a Cincinnati team that was 9-1 and ranked 24 going into the game.

The now 10-0 Knights will still likely (editor’s note: uh, definitely, and a lot of it) need some help in terms of other contenders losing to earn a spot in the Playoff, but their performance will certainly resonate in a positive way with the committee if it comes down to it.

Who else is standing out as the season winds down? Let’s get to the rankings.

10. Troy Trojans (Sun Belt Conference) 9-2

A win is a win is a win, but it sure was ugly for Troy in Week 12. The Trojans defeated the now 3-8 Texas State Bobcats 12-7 behind four Tyler Sumpter field goals. The team had only 220 yards of offense but forced six Texas State turnovers, including five interceptions.

The win keeps Troy undefeated in conference play at 7-0, but its toughest test is coming up this week. The Trojans travel to Boone, N.C. to face 6-1 Appalachian State Saturday. The winner will claim the SBC East title and will host the inaugural Sun Belt Conference championship game.

Up next: Saturday at Appalachian State.

9. Army Knights (Independent) 9-2

A 28-14 victory over Colgate gets Army into the national rankings for the first time since 1996. The Knights check in at 23 in the AP poll and 24 in the Coaches’ Poll after defeating their Patriot League foe.

Darnell Woolfolk ran for 89 yards and three touchdowns, while Kelvin Hopkins, Jr. had 90 yards and a score rushing and 25 passing in the win.

The 2018 squad can tie a school record by getting their 10th win over Navy or in a bowl game, and would set the school record with 11 wins by winning both.

Up next: Dec. 8 vs. Navy
