College GameDay almost had to go to Columbus for Michigan vs. Ohio State to end the 2018 regular season, and these were the best signs in Week 13.

The rivalry between the Michigan Wolverines and Ohio State Buckeyes isn’t one that could be described as friendly. In fact, the opposite would be closer to the truth. These two Big Ten schools have a deep-rooted disdain for one another that runs from the players to the fanbases at large. Thus, it’s always a natural fit for College GameDay to come calling in the final full week of the regular season.

As we’re set to end the 2018 regular season, however, there are still plenty of things to be decided in the Michigan-Ohio State matchup, which makes it all the better. If the Wolverines win, they’re in the conference championship game and one step closer to the College Football Playoff. Lose, and all that comes crumbling down.

Now, a win seems not only possibly, but likely for Michigan at this point with how Ohio State has played. After being upset by Purdue, they’ve then had to eek out wins over Nebraska and Maryland, all of which are teams the Buckeyes shouldn’t struggle with.

With all of this in play, the fans have been at fever-pitch all week for the matchup between the Wolverines and Buckeyes, especially with the former having not won in Columbus since 2000 and riding an overall six-game losing streak vs. their rivals into Saturday’s game.

There are few environments in college football like the one surrounding the season-ending matchup between Michigan and Ohio State. That’s the case in any year. But in a year where the Wolverines seem primed to restore balance to the rivalry and potentially make the College Football Playoff, that’s even more so the case.
