Ryan Donato was called back up to the Boston Bruins on Wednesday. Look for him to add a much-needed offensive punch to this injury-plagued team.

The Boston Bruins called Ryan Donato back to the big club on Wednesday, pulling him from Providence in hopes he can inject some life into the Bruins offense. The Bruins forward conjured up five goals and four assists over 10 games with the team’s AHL affiliate.

At 13-7-4 and still in November, it’s hardly cause for panic. Boasting the league-leading scorer and quite possibly the two hottest goaltenders in the NHL, the Bruins will be just fine. Still, some added offense would be more than welcomed.

Donato was sent down to Providence after netting only one goal in his first 11 games with the Bruins to start the season. With his confidence back and the team looking for offense, Donato could be the savior the B’s need right now.

As of Wednesday morning, Donato was sharing practice time with Danton Heinen, skating on the second line with David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk. With Patrice Bergeron out and anyone not named Pastrnak or DeBrusk struggling to find the back of the net, Donato is stepping in at the perfect time.

Donato’s goalscoring ability is exactly what the Bruins are lacking. The B’s are 3-1-2 since Bergeron’s rib/sternoclavicular injury and have been relying almost solely on David Pastrnak and Jake DeBrusk to create offense in his absence.

Pastrnak currently leads the team in scoring, with 19 goals in their 24 games-played. After him, DeBrusk has 10, Bergeron has nine and Brad Marchand has six (along with 17 assists, showing he’s perfectly fine — relax). Outside of these four, the younger Bruins aren’t bringing much to the table.

If he plays, expect to see Donato put in position to score goals. The jolt of offense he can bring to the currently interchangeable line combinations could solidify his spot with the big club for the rest of the season.

Ryan Donato is back and the smart bet is that he isn’t going to let this opportunity slip away from him this time around. The Bruins play the New York Islanders Thursday evening at 7 p.m. ET. If Donato is in the line up, expect to see some goals.
