Colts lose to Jaguars on controversial call

Indianapolis Colts fans were livid after a controversial call ran out the clock against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, leading to a tough loss.

Trying to lead a game-winning drive, Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts weren’t able to take down the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. There were a number of reasons why the Colts couldn’t pull it out, but a controversial call at the end of the game prevented them from having a chance to win.

In the waning seconds of the game, Luck hit Erik Swoope running across the field hoping that he could get out of bounds and set up one last heave into the end zone. Swoope got hit going out of bounds, and the referee ruled that the clock should continue to run instead of be stopped, running out the clock and giving the Jaguars a controversial win.

During the broadcast, former NFL referee Gene Steratore explained that the call was correct. According to him, a player that loses forward progress before going out of bounds results in the play clock continuing to run. Since it is a judgement call by the official, the play isn’t able to be reviewed.

So, it was the correct call, but Colts fans definitely don’t want to hear that right now. To be fair, however, the Colts offense couldn’t get it going at any point during Sunday’s game, so it’s hard to make the argument that they deserved to beat the Jaguars.

The Colts lost, but their playoffs are still very much alive this season. Frank Reich’s crew will still have a few more games to secure a wild card spot in the AFC.
