Kareem Hunt clears waivers; accused of another assault

Kareem Hunt cleared waivers on Monday afternoon, but that isn’t the only reason he’s in the news, with more allegations coming out

All 32 NFL clubs passed on claiming Kareem Hunt off waivers Monday, making him a free agent following his release by the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday night.

Unfortunately for Hunt and the people he comes into contact with, that wasn’t the only reason he was back in the headlines.

Hunt, 24, is the subject of another report from TMZ claiming that he and former Chiefs running back George Atkinson “beat the daylights” out of a man at the Mosaic Club in Kansas City on the morning of Jan. 7. That was only hours after the Chiefs were defeated in an AFC Wild Card game by the Tennessee Titans at Arrowhead Stadium.

The unidentified man filed a police report, claiming that he originally was in a physical dispute with Atkinson before Atkinson’s friends jumped in, including Hunt. Within the report, the man says he was treated for broken ribs and a broken nose among bruises and contusions. No arrests were made or charges filed in connection with the police report.

The Chiefs have been asked for comment by FanSided, but no response has come yet.

All this comes on the heels of Friday’s TMZ report which showed Hunt shoving and kicking a 19-year-old woman at a Ohio hotel back in February, prompting his release. Hunt then did a live interview with ESPN’s Lisa Salters on Sunday’s NFL Countdown, trying to explain why that incident isn’t representative of who he is.

There is also a third assault allegation stemming from a reported attack in June, when Hunt is said to have punched a man at an Ohio resort. Again, no charges were filed and no video tape has surfaced.

Hunt, who was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt list, is now technically off the list considering he’s not under a team’s control. Should he sign at any point before being reinstated, he would automatically go back onto the list.
