Mains Mavericks – Week 14 DraftKings NFL GPP Salary Savers
Mains Mavericks – Week 14 DraftKings NFL GPP Salary Savers
Main’s Mavericks is providing weekly Draftkings NFL DFS GPP contest advice by searching out low-salary, boom-or-bust plays destined to outperform value. As a general rule for this article, I target players below $5,000.
My goal is to pick value plays who I believe can exceed 4-5 times their value (EX: $5,000 player x 4 = 20DK Pts). I will be using all of my picks in Week 14 DraftKings NFL GPP tournaments as boom-or-bust punt options.
Saving on these volatile players will allow you to pay-up for superstars when building that Week 14 DraftKings NFL $1,000,000 lineup. If you need a refresher, you can check out my week 13 article here.
Week 14 DraftKings NFL DFS GPP Salary Savers
Ryan Tannehill 4,800 vs NE
Tannehill is perpetually overlooked. Going up against big bad Belichick should have DFSers running in the opposite direction, especially how good the New England defense looked last week. But I fully trust in Ryan Tannehill.
Since coming back from injury, Tanny has averaged almost 17 points per game going against the 17th and 1st ranked pass defenses against fantasy QBs. That is solid production.
Tanny was not asked to do much in those contests, but he will definitely be called upon this week. I anticipate a shootout, so I will be overweight on my boy Tannehill. My only delima starting Tanny is knowing what WR to stack him with.
Jeff Wilson Jr. 3,800 vs DEN
This has all the making of a letdown. Jeff Wilson sounds more like a used car salesman than an NFL running back. Heck, Jeff Wilson very well could have been selling cars a few weeks ago.
The undrafted rookie out of North Texas was called up from the practice squad in September and has played in only 2 games this year for the San Francisco 49ers. Had it not been for a Matt Breida injury, Jeff Wilson would remain in oblivion.
However, now the rookie headlines every week 14 fantasy football periodical. I cannot fade the guy this week. He played well at Tampa in week 12 (when he was not even available on DraftKings), and he was an absolute monster in week 13 at Seattle at the minimum price. The smart move is to fade, but I am too impressed with his highlight reel to listen to game theory.
Stevan Ridley 3,300 @ OAK
Jaylen Samuels will be extremely popular this week! I am not convinced he is ready to step in as the lead dog. Give me a more veteran presence like Ridley to step in and command the position.
Ridley has had his fair share of monster fantasy performances as a backup in the New England offence. I will bet on Ridley to come through again. He will undoubtedly be less owned than Samuel, meaning more leverage for us when he shows out.
Zay Jones 4,200 vs NYJ
Jones had 9 targets last week with a full complement of wide receivers lined up beside him. Now the depth chart is littered with guys who even the most staunch NFL fans have never heard of. Even you couldn’t come up with a single name besides Zay Jones, here is the depth chart.
If Allen actually throws the ball this week, Zay should be in line for a healthy complement of targets. Maybe I am a week late and the release of Kelvin Benjamin will have DFSers flocking, but I will take my chances.
Curtis Samuel 4,000 @ CLE
I have been riding with Curtis Samuel in DFS for the last 3 weeks (check out my week 11 article if you do not believe me). He has not disappointed. Samuel’s role continues to grow in the Carolina Panthers offense.

He has 160 receiving yards on 20 targets over the past 3 weeks, has ran for 33 yards, and has caught 2 touchdown passes.
This week, Samuel faces off against the Browns. Samuel played college football 2 hours south of Cleveland at a little school called The Ohio State University. Ever heard of it? I think he will be fired up about returning to Ohio. And I do not think Cam could possibly play as poorly as he did last week.
Matt LaCosse 2,700 @ WAS
LaCosse was the second highest owned TE last week and he let everyone down with a big fat goose-egg. People will forget how LaCosse put up 12.4 DK points as a backup. They will forget that he is the only healthy TE on the roster.
Emmanuel Sanders will miss Sunday’s game, so Courtland Sutton is getting so much hype. Sign me up for Matt LaCosse to step up and reward those who believed in him. I-L-L.
