A relaunch of the XFL is set to start in 2020 and the search for talent is going deep already.

The NFL is in essentially untouchable at this point as a billion-dollar business. But the Alliance of American Football is coming in February and a new version of the XFL is scheduled to start play in 2020.

Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Houston, St. Louis, Washington, Seattle and Tampa Bay are the eight cities that will host XFL teams and a few will play in the same stadium as the NFL team in the city.

The XFL will offer another alternative for players and coaches who aren’t quite NFL-caliber, or hope to land on the NFL’s radar by simply playing and coaching football.

The two alternate leagues will be looking high and low for talent, and the XFL has opened up applications directly on its website for playing and coaching positions somewhere.

A deeper dive into the coaching application shows some experience as a likely requirement, with space to attach a resume, cite which of the three phases you want to coach, what offensive or defensive system you’d run (if applicable), who you learned under in coaching and how you’d describe your coaching style (Hard Nose, Energy, Calm, Player Coach, Disciplinarian).

Or, there’s an “Apply With LinkedIn” button to expedite some of the process. So quite literally, anyone who has a LinkedIn profile can apply to be a coach in the XFL.

How far along someone could get in the hiring or interview process without coaching experience is another question, but the application is absolutely wide open.

The XFL deserves credit for thinking outside the box in a search for players and coaches, and there is some time to full vet candidates. But a Pandora’s Box has also been opened, with a fair amount of not-so-serious candidates sure to come out of the woodwork.
