Kevin Durant, a former MVP, believes Jayson Tatum has the potential to be an MVP himself someday.

Boston Celtics fans are very high on their talented young second-year star, Jayson Tatum, and with good reason. The 20-year-old has seemingly unlimited potential, and he proved that during the 2018 playoffs by taking the banged up Celtics, missing its two best players, to within a victory of reaching the NBA Finals.

Tatum has the potential to become one the best players in the league — an MVP-type player — and Kevin Durant of the Golden State Warriors, already one of the best basketball players in the world, sees just how good he can be.

Heck, he might even see a little bit of himself in Boston’s youngster. Durant didn’t say a lot, but he had a few words regarding Tatum.

“He showed me some stuff,” Durant said on “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” via NESN.com.

When Simmons asked him if he thought Tatum could be in the MVP conversation, Durant said he did.

“He’s got that talent, yeah,” he said.

Durant knows all about that. He’s a former MVP himself, which he won years ago when he was still with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Today, he’s a seasoned NBA veteran who has won two championships and has seen just about everything there is to see in this league.

Tatum, on the other hand, is only in his second NBA season, and he still has a long way to go before he becomes a contender for the MVP award. But you can definitely see similarities between Tatum and Durant.

Durant and Tatum are both very gifted scorers. Durant is already one of the best in the world, and Tatum could get there in the next few years.

If Durant sees some of himself in Tatum, you can certainly see why. Boston fans would certainly love to see Tatum become the next Durant — although they will hope he doesn’t choose to leave them to join the Warriors.
