It was a very embarrassing afternoon for the NFC East

The Cowboys and Giants were both shutout on Sunday, punctuating a truly awful afternoon for the NFC East.

It was a comically bad Sunday for the NFC East. Three teams had noon kicks and combined for two shutouts and only 16-points total.

Both the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants were shutout while the Washington Redskins scored 16-points in Jacksonville. The last time two teams from the same division posted shutouts on the same day was Week 15 of the 2012 season, albeit it was the Saints and Falcons doing the shutting out rather than being embarrassed. The common thread is that the Giants were on the receiving end of a 34-0 drubbing at the hands of the Falcons, and it happened exactly six years ago today.

The cherry on top of this awful Sunday for the NFC East is the fact that all three teams were outscored 53-16. One doesn’t need to be an expert in football analytics to know that isn’t good.

The saving grace is a miracle comeback win by Washington. Josh Johnson was the only winning quarterback on Sunday afternoon in the East, and he needed a last-second field goal to outduel Cody Kessler for the win.

It needs to be pointed out that the Eagles have yet to play, but they’re going up against a Super Bowl-hungry Los Angeles Rams team. Things aren’t shaping up to end well for the division, and all of it is compounded by the fact that three of the teams are technically still alive for a playoff spot with just two weeks left in the season.
