Aquaman: When does the movie come out?
Aquaman has been riding a wave of positive reviews and a stellar overseas performance, so when can you catch the latest DC movie in theaters?
It’s the start of a new era for DC Entertainment and Warner Bros as Aquaman joins Wonder Woman as one of its most well-received superhero movies, edging out DC stalwarts Batman and Superman at the box office. But the true test comes as Aquaman opens domestically.
Aquaman fans in the United States will have a chance to see the latest DC film when it opens on December 21, 2018. Technically, though, the movie will have a flurry of midnight showings starting on Thursday evening, so if you want to be among the first to see the movie without being inundated by social media spoilers then Thursday might be your best bet.
When Justice League debuted it was met with lackluster reviews, but everyone agreed that it was great to see Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman again, and Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry was an unexpected delight. Aquaman traditionally has taken a back seat to the DC Trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman, and after the struggles facing both Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice the studio listened to fans by removing the dark overtones to give Momoa room to do what he does best.
Fortunately, there was enough time after Justice League to go in and make any adjustments in James Wan’s movie before production wrapped. From the critical response and the massive box office totals overseas, it sounds like the extra work was well worth it because Aquaman is now the DCEU box office champion in China after only a few days.
If you’re looking for tickets to Aquaman on Thursday night, make sure you reserve them early as the buzz surrounding the film, coupled with kids being out on holiday breaks, will make the early showings more crowded than usual.
