No stranger to powerful classes, LSU is adding another talented recruiting class this early signing period.

The LSU Tigers greatly exceeded expectations this season, being ranked as high as No. 3 and vying for a playoff spot. However, a shutout loss to Alabama and a seven-overtime thriller with Texas A&M that came just short left LSU outside the top ten.

To propel themselves into the playoffs, LSU is adding some studs on both sides of the football. Three five-star recruits are expected to sign to LSU this early signing period. Derek Singletary (Baton Rouge, LA) is one of the most electric players in the country and is the top-ranked cornerback and third-ranked overall. Singletary is just the next in a long, long line of talented defensive backs in Baton Rouge, who have taken on the name, “DBU.”

Joining Singletary is explosive running back John Emery Jr. (Destrehan, LA) and offensive guard Kardell Thomas. Emery Jr. is a powerful north-south runner who has a promising future in the NFL ahead of him and Thomas comes in as the second-ranked offensive guard in the nation. Both players fit well into offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger’s pro-style system.

A myriad of four-star recruits also put the LSU hat on during the early signing period.

Though never considered a high-flying, high-scoring offense, LSU looks to improve upon their 31.8 points per game from 2018, ranked T-44th in the country. Close losses to Florida and Texas A&M can be traced to poor performances on third down, where the Tigers converted on just 39% of their third downs (23.5% versus Florida). The addition of Emery Jr. should help that number climb, along with speedy four-star wide receiver Trey Palmer, who is expected to sign early, as well.

The success in Baton Rouge isn’t going away any time soon with this stacked class, ranked fourth in the nation. We can expect LSU to continue to contend and be one of the more interesting teams in the country in 2019.
