If Mike McCarthy wants to get back in coaching, could the Arizona Cardinals be the perfect fit for the former Packers coach?

When Mike McCarthy was fired from the Green Bay Packers, many believed he wouldn’t stay unemployed for long. Now, his list of suitors are beginning to line up.

According to Peter King, there are a lot of rumors floating around the Valley of the Sun that McCarthy would love to coach in Arizona. Well, it seems like the interest is mutual, as the Cardinals are interested in trying to bring McCarthy aboard.

Many Packers assistants believed McCarthy was headed to Arizona last offseason after Bruce Arians retired and his future in Green Bay looked tenuous at best.

The Cardinals job isn’t open. at least not yet, as Steve Wilks remains at his post. But that could be for one more week as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the team isn’t interested in retaining him for a second season.

McCarthy had a long, successful run in Green Bay, compiling a 125-77-2 record, and brought a Super Bowl win to Titletown.

He is one of the more successful coaches that will be on the market, in addition to Arians, and the Cardinals will be in stiff competition to get him. The Cleveland Browns could also be pursuing McCarthy because of his familiarity with John Dorsey and the team’s front office.

McCarthy could always choose to sit out the upcoming year and collect his money from the Packers before evaluating the job market next offseason.

But it may seem that the Cardinals will have the upper hand. Reportedly, McCarthy likes Arizona. The prospect of developing rookie quarterback Josh Rosen and bringing the team back to a point of contention could be the new challenge he’s looking to take on.
