The Philadelphia 76ers will look to get their road trip back on track when they visit the underappreciated Los Angeles Clippers on New Year’s Day.

The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to gain some momentum on a five-game road trip that has been like a roller coaster at Six Flags.

That coaster doesn’t show signs of slowing down anytime soon, especially against their next opponent, the Los Angeles Clippers, a team who is on a mission to show the NBA world that they are for real.

The 76ers (23-14) didn’t have that issue, as they were pegged by NBA pundits to be one of the teams in contention to take the Eastern Conference crown this season. They even made a blockbuster mover earlier in the season when they acquired Jimmy Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While that trade has made them a formidable bunch, Philadelphia has had their stumbles. After two blowout home victories over the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks, the 76ers entered a five-game road trip with a loss at Boston, a blowout win over the Utah Jazz, and a waxing at the hands of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Now, they’ll try to get back on the winning track against the Clippers, who are feeling a bit disrespected by the rest of the league.

While their “crosstown” rivals, the Lakers, get all of the press, the Clippers have quietly amassed a 21-15 record, and sit fourth in the West, a half-game in front of the Lakers. They have done it with a group of stellar role players, and while they don’t have a “superstar,” per se, they are a team that is showing the NBA that one isn’t needed to be successful.

They did take a dent, however, to end 2018 with a 122-111 defeat at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs, but, overall, the Clippers are a team that deserves to be looked at as dark horses in the loaded West.

Including their date with the 76ers, three of their next four games will be at home to start 2019.
