The Portland Trail Blazers will look to keep the winning feeling going on New Year’s Day when they pay a visit to the Sacramento Kings.
The Portland Trail Blazers have had a hard time recently stringing together victories, especially to close out 2018.
So, they’ll begin 2019 with a renewed focus on putting together a win streak when they pay a visit to the surprising Sacramento Kings on New Year’s Day. In the final six games to end 2018, the Blazers (21-16) have alternated between wins and losses. They were blown out at home by the Utah Jazz on Dec. 21, only to follow that up with a close, come-from-behind victory over the Dallas Mavericks two days later.
Then, on Christmas, the Damian Lillard-led Blazers were waxed (again) by the Jazz, this time on the road. They would rebound two days later by winning a thrilling game against the defending champion Golden State Warriors in Oakland, only to see the Warriors come up to Portland and beat them on their home court.
To finish 2019, Portland would hand the Philadelphia 76ers an embarrassing loss, 129-95.
This up-and-down nature clearly has the Blazers puzzled, and they would love to find consistency as the All-Star break approaches. They will have a five-game homestand ahead of them, but first, they’ll travel to California’s capital to face a Kings team (19-17) looking to finally push through and make the playoffs.
Sacramento was just as scattershot as the Blazers to end 2018, going 3-3 in their final six games of the year. The difference for Sacramento, however, is that, for the first time in a while, they’ll be heading into the new year with a winning record. Sacramento sits just one game in back of the eighth-place San Antonio Spurs, and their team, led by the exciting DeAron Fox and resurgent Buddy Hield, is one of the league’s highest-scoring teams.
Their game against Portland will open a four-game homestand that will also see the Kings entertain Denver, Golden State, and Orlando before heading back on the road.
