Golf is back! And I am here with some Yahoo PGA DFS Targets for you! If you are not playing at least some DFS on Yahoo yet you need to pay attention to what they are doing over there. To end the NFL season, they offered some amazing guaranteed overlay GPP tournaments with 10-max entry limits. This evens the field in so many ways, and maybe we will some similar tournaments in the future for PGA, perhaps for the majors?
Depending on the response from the public… Yes you. This could become a weekly article as I look to expand my PGA coverage going into the 2019 season. I am back to give you targets for FanDuel each week, and will also venture over to DRAFT to give you some rankings to play there from time to time. But I will personally be playing more Yahoo PGA DFS this season, so let’s see if there is any interest from any of you. If you want to see this article weekly, let me know!
We will keep this simple, and break it down into tiers as I do with most of my other articles. The top tier will be comprised of golfers $40 and over. That will be followed with the mid tier, which will be players between $30 and $39. Then I will find the value plays, which will be all the targets below $29. Last but not least, there will be the FantasyCPR staple sample lineup which you all know and love.
Yahoo PGA DFS: Rosters and Scoring
If you are completely new to DFS on Yahoo, it is a little different when it comes to salaries and salary cap, but the game is nearly the same in terms of scoring and roster size. We get a $200 salary cap to roster six golfers, which gives an average of $33 per golfer. The most expensive players to roster will cost you between $42-$48 or so on most weeks, and the minimum priced golfers are $20. For all the details on scoring, here is a quick link to the rules page for Yahoo PGA.
Yahoo PGA DFS: 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions
The 2019 PGA Tour kicks off in Maui as always, at the beautiful Kapalua Plantation golf course on the northwest corner of the incredible island. Windy conditions and slow greens are always the top factors to consider here, and players who thrive in these conditions should the be the golfers you want to target.
The Plantation Course will play at Par-73, and measures 7452 Yards. Being long off the tee is a great help, but necessary for success. Those that keep it down out of the wind, and can sink some putts on some slow difficult greens will have the most success.
Without further ado, let’s get to the targets!

Yahoo PGA DFS: Top Tier Targets – 2019 Sentry TOC
Justin Thomas – $44
It should be obvious that Dustin Johnson is the top dog and clear-cut favorite here, but the way these salaries are looking, this could very well be a fun week to make multiple lineups, as there is just so much value available. What this leads us to, is an easy ability to roster two of the top golfers in the field with a “stars and scrubs” approach, so let’s talk about my second favorite golfer this week, instead of DJ
Thomas struggled a bit here last year, but did fire a 6-under final round to bring him to -4, and finish tied for 22nd. However, he was victorious here in 2017, so there is no doubt he can win here. He played twice in October, with his best finish being a T-5 at the CIMB Classic. He shot a final round 64 in that one, and finished at 20-under. Thomas should be a great pivot away from Dustin Johnson this week, and you can easily roster both if you desire.
Jon Rahm – $41
Last year’s runner-up at the Tournament of Champions Jon Rahm is back, and he is coming off a win at the Hero World Challenge. The 26-year-old Spaniard looks poised to have a solid season, and I think it starts right away this week at Kapalua. The 2017 rookie of the year had his ups-and-downs last season, but Rahm has historically played well in January in the small sample size we have.
Last year, he was one of the first to qualify for this event, with his win at the CareerBuilder challenge, an event usually held on California courses and held in January. Rahm held off Andrew Landry in a playoff, after both finished 22-under. His 16-under 2nd place finish here last year at Kapalua has me all-in in all formats. Rahm can be deployed safely in all formats here, as I fully expect him to be in contention all weekend.
***Also Consider: Dustin Johnson $46 – Brooks Koepka $41***

Yahoo PGA DFS: Mid Tier Targets – 2019 Sentry TOC
Patrick Reed – $39
In an effort to differentiate from the field a bit, my hopes are that Patrick Reed may get a bit overlooked this weekend. There hasn’t been much buzz either way on Reed as of late, but he shot 15-under and finished T-6 in 2017 in his last trip to Kapalua.
Reed competed last in the Hero World Challenge, where he finished 11th, finishing at 10-under. The reigning Masters Champion is not a favorite among his peers it seems, but his game was mostly solid all season, and I expect him to contend this weekend. I won’t be playing him in my cash games, but he could be a decent low ownership pivot for tournament play.
Webb Simpson – $33
Simpson will make his return to the Tournament of Champions, where he has not played since 2014, when he finished T-3. He recently withdrew from the Hero World Challenge, so the last time he teed it up competitively was at the RSM Classic in November. He was a favorite in that one, and did not disappoint with a solo 3rd place finish.
Simpson qualified for this years Sentry Tournament of Champions with his win at the Players Championship last year. It was his fifth career win, and his first in four years. The 33-year-old Wake Forest product is still one of the best putters on tour, and if he can putt good this week he should be right in the thick of things.
***Also Consider: Marc Leishman $31***

Yahoo PGA DFS: Low Tier Targets – 2019 Sentry TOC – Value Plays
Matt Kuchar – $27
The crafty veteran Matt Kuchar earns another trip to Maui, and is vastly under priced here. If you look at Kuchars salary compared to other DFS sites this week, it is really hard not to like him here in this format. It has been four years since he has made it back, but his win at the Mayakoba in early November sealed the deal. Kuchar has played this event seven times over the years, and has four top-10 finishes.

Kuch was dominant at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, as he opened the event with back-to-back 64’s. He went on to finish 22-under, and it was the best we have seen him play in quite some time. I don’t think he can slept on at this price, and I will certainly have a few shares in tournament play.
Aaron Wise – $20
I will start by saying Gary Woodland is an absolute favorite target of mine this week, as he is another player priced way too low. I already wrote him up in my FanDuel article which was published earlier today, so if you want to find out why go check that out when you are done here.
For the minimum price this week, two golfers have my attention, and one is the 22-year-old rookie of the year Aaron Wise. Wise last competed in November at Mayakoba, where he finished T-10th at 16-under. He earned a spot in his first Tournament of Champions last season with his win at the Byron Nelson Classic.
***Also Consider: Gary Woodland $26 – Charles Howell $20***

Yahoo PGA DFS: 2019 Sentry Tournament of Champions – Sample Lineup!
The line-up below is meant to be illustrative only to further back-up the logic laid out in previous slides. It is not an optimal line-up. It is in fact, just a “Sample Lineup.”
This is not recommended for cash games this week, but is more intended to show you that you can roster three top-tier golfers rather easily.
G – Dustin Johnson – $46
G – Jon Rahm – $41
G – Justin Thomas – $44
G – Matt Kuchar – $27
G – Aaron Wise – $20
G – Charles Howell – $20
