2019 NFL mock draft: Josh Allen heads to the 49ers
By Brad Weiss
Incredibly, the Green Bay Packers were one of the worst teams in the NFC this season, despite the fact that they had a healthy Aaron Rodgers under center. Rodgers played through injuries for most of last season, missing a ton of time with a broke collarbone, but was expected to lead the team back to the top of the NFC North in 2018.
Instead, the Chicago Bears won the division, and were the only team from the North to actually make the playoffs. As they head into the offseason, they are looking for a new head coach, as Mike McCarthy was fired during the season, and replaced with Joe Philbin on an interim basis.
On Monday, it appeared that the Packers had found their guy, as sources were claiming that Matt LaFleur would be taking over as the new head coach. The former offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans is stepping into a very nice situation, as he has a Hall of Fame quarterback in Rodgers, and a ton of talent on both sides of the ball.
With his first pick as head coach, he has to do something to improve the secondary, and it would make sense to draft Deionte Thompson from Alabama. The safety could come in and fill the void left by the trade of Ha Ha Clinton-Dix during the 2018 season, and if the Packers hope to be a player in the NFC, this defensive backfield has got to improve.
