Need to know when Supergirl will return with a brand new episode? Find out when the new episode, “Suspicious Minds,” will air on The CW below.

The last time we saw Supergirl, The CW teased a storyline that ended with her death, and she decided to leave the DEO instead of exposing her identity to the world.

Since we’re going to be dealing with the Children of Liberty a little bit longer, it would be rather surprising if this season of Supergirl got any more interesting than it already isn’t. But to be fair, the first half of this season was infinitely better than both seasons 2 and 3 combined.

Although, next year’s Infinite Crisis could give the show an opportunity for a soft reboot. After all, it’s exactly what the storyline was meant to do for comics, and it remains DC’s best and easiest way to hit the reset button. There’s no reason The CW couldn’t use it as Arrow‘s exit and Supergirl‘s second fourth chance at redemption.

If Aquaman‘s cruise to a billion dollars at the box office has taught us anything, it’s that DC doesn’t have to be the punchline of every joke. All they need to do is apply themselves without overaggressively trying to set themselves apart with dark, moody melodrama. In case you’ve missed it, fully-grown men whining about their problems is out and uplifting but not overly cheesy and humorous films with good action sequences, world-building and CGI are in.

All of which Supergirl severely lacks, since its timeline and crucial plot details seem to change with every other episode. Continuity? Evidently, we don’t know her.

But as any fan of the show can agree, there’s always time to fix things.

When Supergirl returns on Sunday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. ET, it’s probably still going to be a mess. Especially since Supergirl has chosen not to work at the DEO. Yet, if the synopsis for “Suspicious Minds” is any indication, she will still be a large part of the DEO’s focus. I just love when the show adds new characters just to add new characters and not to give them meaningful storylines that add to Kara Danvers’ growth. And that’s said knowing we’ve played the “Who am I if I’m not Supergirl?” game every season.

Yes, it’s tired and weak. Just like the show itself right now. But hey, we’ll always have that time she randomly fought a dragon and ignored the xenophobic and fearmongering hoards of freaks raging through the city.
