Michigan has offered a scholarship offer to 7th grader Isaiah Marshall who could be the Wolverines’ quarterback of the future in the future.

What were you doing in seventh grade? Chances are you weren’t getting a scholarship offer to play football at one of the best football programs in the country. Most seventh graders are worried about how they’re going to ask their crush to the big school dance or how they can convince their parents to buy them the latest iPhone. But Isaiah Marshall is not your average seventh grader. Marshall is a student and quarterback at MacArthur Academy in Southfield, Michigan and now holds a scholarship offer at Michigan.

Think he’ll have something cool to share with his buddies in the cafeteria today?!

This is a lot cooler than bragging about winning a game of NBA2K with buddies and he’s still three years away from being a licensed driver.

Kids grow up so fast these days.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh offered Marshall after he was looking at tape of Southfield High School to see if there were any players worthy of being offered a scholarship. Marshall works out with the high school team where his father Brian is running backs coach and his uncle Aaron is the offensive coordinator.

Of course, a lot can change between seventh grade and his senior year. Offering middle schoolers is not a new thing, but it’s still extremely rare. Lane Kiffin offered David Sills a scholarship when he was in seventh grade, Alabama, LSU and Texas were among the schools to offer Dylan Moses a scholarship when he was in seventh grade. Chris Leak received a scholarship offer to Wake Forest when he was in eighth grade.

None of those players enrolled at the school who offered first, so the head start didn’t do them any favors, but perhaps, it will work out for Harbaugh and Michigan. Then again, with so many rumors about his potential interest in the NFL and their interest in him, can you imagine Harbaugh being at Michigan when Marshall is ready to enroll for his freshman year?

For now, Marshall is the big man on his middle school campus and more offers are likely to start pouring in for him now that Michigan was the first to pull the trigger on an offer. This is an exciting time for him, his family, coaches and teammates. The recruiting process can be long and stressful, but for Marshall, it’ll be a bit longer than others since he’s only halfway through middle school.
