NFL Draft 2019: Top 32 prospects – Post-Senior Bowl edition
By Conor Dorney
Size and speed is crucial in the NFL and Ole Miss standout D.K. Metcalf has them in spades.
Listed at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds, Metcalf aces the eye test and has the kind of rare burst and athleticism that will make him a coveted offensive prospect on draft day. His targets in the Ole Miss offense were poached a bit by fellow 2019 draft prospect A.J. Brown, but there’s no denying that Metcalf has perhaps the highest ceiling of any wide receiver in this class.
Metcalf posted an incredible 21.9 yards per reception to go along with five touchdowns despite playing in only seven games. His season was cut short by a neck injury, which will certainly be an important red flag to watch for teams going forward, but it’s hard not to fall in love with what he’s accomplished when he has been on the field.
The footwork, length, and explosion are all there for Metcalf to be a dynamic outside receiver at the NFL level. If his medicals check out, plenty of teams will be clamoring to add him to their offense on draft day.
