This is the final game of this football season. If you’re playing DraftKings, which player should you want as your team captain for the big game?
Here we are. The final game of the 2018 football season. We have the Los Angeles Rams taking on the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl. Both teams have a lot of weapons at their disposal. If you are looking to make a DraftKings lineup for the final time this season, what player should you use as your captain?
If you’re not familiar, when there is only one game on the slate, DraftKings uses a different type of game. They use a six-player lineup with no position designation. One player, listed as the captain, earned 1.5 fantasy points while the others earn the standard amount. Their salary is multiplied by 1.5. You want a player who will score a lot of points as your captain. With DraftKings using PPR scoring, a pass catcher is the usual option.
Jared Goff is a good quarterback but he’s a game manager. He hasn’t thrown for 300 yards in his last four games. Though, he did get close against the Saints with 297. In the three games before that, he threw an average of 26 times per game. I wouldn’t want to use him in my lineup, especially as my captain. He doesn’t give himself a lot of chances to score.

The Rams have a dangerous trio at wide receiver. Brandin Cooks (facing his former team), Robert Woods and Josh Reynolds. Their tight end situation is not as good as the Patriots or other teams. Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett are the two tight ends.
The Rams have developed a solid one-two punch at running back. Todd Gurley is still the star but C.J. Anderson has had a nice end of the season. He did struggle against the Saints but so did Gurley. The Patriots rank 12th against opposing running backs. If the Rams want to win this game, they’ll keep the ball on the ground and away from Tom Brady.
Speaking of the Patriots, Brady is also questionable play. While he does have multiple 300-yard games, he’s had more one-touchdown games this season. The Patriots have run the ball more with their skilled running backs.
Sony Michel has five touchdowns and 242 yards in his last two games. Rex Burkhead has three touchdowns. James White is a playmaker out of the backfield. He was targeted 17 times in the division round against the Chargers.
Julian Edelman is the top wide receiver for the Patriots. Looking back at their game against the Chiefs, Brady continuously targeted him on third down. Edelman has 39 targets in his last four games, including three games with 10 or more. He has six straight games with at least 16 fantasy points.
Phillip Dorsett and Chris Hogan are a bit too inconsistent to use in my lineup, let alone as my captain. They may get some catches but the lack of touchdowns thrown by Brady limit their fantasy value.
Rob Gronkowski had his best game in weeks when he caught six passes for 79 yards. I expect him to have another big game. Gronk is a huge mismatch for any defender trying to cover him. I wouldn’t use him as my captain but would definitely use him in my lineup.
My sample lineup consists of Edelman as my captain with White, Michel, Gronkowski, Anderson and Cooks filling out the rest of the slots. PPR scoring favors White and Cooks. Michel is the lead back and Anderson will get his fair share of carries. Gronk is impossible to single-cover, giving him an advantage over the Rams defense.
Whatever lineup you pick, good luck!
