Tennessee Titans-Sign WR Cole Beasley

The Titans will have another offensive coordinator for quarterback Marcus Mariota this year, which is its own concern for the most important player on the team even with the relative continuity of long-time assistant Arthur Smith being elevated. But a parallel, and frankly ongoing, concern with getting the best out of Mariota is a lack of weapons around him.

Former first-round pick Corey Davis appears to be a keeper. But no other Titans wide receiver even had 40 catches or 500 receiving yards last year. A run-tilted offense is a factor, but the Titans need to find impact players in the passing game.

He quickly walked back the comments about the Cowboys’ front office dictating who gets the ball, but Beasley surely eliminated any chance at a return to Dallas when he hits free agency.

Beasley has been productive though, with at least 65 receptions in two of the last three seasons, and he’s sure to get a lot of interest as a slot receiver on the open market. The Packers have been mentioned as a possible landing spot already, but if it’s a prominent role Beasley wants most Tennessee should emerge as a rumored destination for him fairly quickly.

Whether it’s Beasley, or someone else, it would a surprise if the Titans don’t sign a wide receiver in free agency. Failure to do so would be disservice to Mariota,
