Welcome FantasyCPR readers to a new piece I will provide when time permits. I have only recently started playing the smaller PGA DraftKings golf slates, and since they easily have the best contest selection available, I will venture into new territory for me personally, and finally contribute for DraftKings.

Hopefully if you are somewhat new to PGA DraftKings you held off on one day showdown slates or weekend golf as whole as long as possible. For some of us degenerates who may be staring at a missed cut or two or three in our main lineups, we only see the chance to hedge with some weekend golf. So let’s do it!

I am actually quite surprised to see the selection of contests for the Saturday – Sunday, weekend only golf slate on DraftKings. Plenty of options for buy-in’s of every dollar amount, so before we get to my lineup, let’s talk a little bit about weekend golf strategy.

PGA DraftKings – Weekend Golf Strategy:

There really isn’t a whole lot different in general, but the main thing that should be considered here along with how the first two rounds went, is whether or not that golfer is a finisher, or a faulter on Sundays. Other than that, we do have a slight advantage with the rotating course factor, so let’s talk about this particular events strategy.

Each golfer has played a round at two of three courses in play so far. Through the two rounds, it looks like the easiest to score at is Monterey, but there has been some success at Pebble Beach and Spyglass as well. There is no cut until after Saturday this week, so keep an eye on that cut line before finalizing your roster.

For purposes of this slate, the first thing I want to do, is target players that played at Pebble Beach one of their first two days, and played it well. Obviously Branden Grace will fall right into this category. Sunday’s action takes place at Pebble Beach, so the reason for this is obvious.

Besides that, I mentioned Monterey looks like it is playing the easiest, so targeting golfers who play their Saturday round here will be my other course of action. Much like I try to couple recent form with course history on a weekly basis, in this weekend format with rotating courses, if I can find golfers who plays Monterey on Saturday, and played Pebble well Thursday or Friday, they will be high on my radar.

PGA DraftKings: 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am – Weekend Golf – Top Plays

Jason Day – $10,000 – (Currently T-15th at -6)

Of all the studs right in the thick of things, choosing between DJ, Day and possibly Phil Mickelson will the likely be the deciding factor for the weekend contests. It is currently Friday afternoon, and Mickelson has finished with a 4-under 68 at Spyglass.

Day was solid at Monterey yesterday as he should have been, and was one of the last few to tee-off at Spyglass Hill today. He is even through 12 holes at the moment, and is still my pick to come through and win this one. Both weekend rounds will be at Pebble Beach, and I think that will play out as an advantage over those that play Spyglass on Saturday.

Back-to-back rounds at the same course in an event like this can help the golfer have a better feel that second day. However, Johnson and Jordan Spieth are also in this same position, to name a couple.

Brian Gay – $8,600 – (Currently T-6th at -7)

Gay fired an opening round 64 at Monterey Peninsula on Thursday, and currently sits alone in sixth, and he has finished even on the day at Spyglass. Like Day, he is another golfer who will play Pebble Beach on both days, and with the way he is playing right now, I fully expect him to stay in the hunt.

Gay’s short game and putting, along with the ability to put it all together in less than favorable conditions make his game a perfect fit to keep it up here. Don’t sleep on this guy this weekend although he is priced up a bit. I doubt he will win, but he found a top-10 here last year, and he looks on his way to do so again.

Rafael Cabrera-Bello – $8,300 – (Currently T-6th at -7)

Cabrera-Bello is our first of four players who will play Monterey Peninsula on Saturday, and Pebble Beach on Friday. If you can get four golfers in this situation I think that is the perfect strategy. Although some players are scoring the front just fine at Spyglass, there are just more scoring opportunites at Monterey.

Rafa shot a 69 at Spyglass on Thursday, and currently is 4-under through 15 holes at Pebble Beach. My opinion was that he was under priced here on DraftKings to begin with, so I am certainly still on board with this one.

PGA DraftKings: 2019 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am – Weekend Golf – Value Plays

Lucas Glover – $7,700 – (Currently T-2 at -10)

Glover was on a long run of top-20 finishes before missing the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open last week, but he looks to be right back at it this weekend. He carded a 68 at Spyglass Hill on Thursday, and carded a 66 today at Pebble Beach, and is currently tied for second.

Glover will play Monterey on Saturday, and there is a solid chance he can make a run at a victory this weekend. He has been one of the better players at Pebble today among the unfavorable conditions, so there looks to be no reason he skips a beat the rest of the way.

Shane Lowry – $7,500 – (Currently T-112th at +3)

The more the day goes on this is looking less and less likely, but Lowry is yet another normally solid golfer that gets Monterey tomorrow. The only problem here is that Lowry is +3 through 15 holes thus far today at Pebble Beach. This is normally the environment in which Lowry thrives, but something seems to be off with him today.

Nevertheless, I am just too vested in Lowry now, and if he can score big on Saturday at Monterey and make the 60-man 54-hole cut, then he could turn out to be a sneaky weekend tournament play. However, if he is mediocre once again, there is the big risk of him not getting that final round on Sunday.

Pay attention here, pivoting to a guy like Cameron Champ who also plays Monterey on Saturday might not be a bad idea depending on how he finishes today.

Martin Laird – $7,300 – (Currently T-48 at -3)

Laird was looking like another lock for the weekend slate, but he has faltered a bit the last few holes at Pebble Beach, and that is making me a bit nervous. He took a seven for a double-bogey on the par-five 18th hole, and currently sits at +1 for the day through 15 holes.

Once again, Monterey on Saturday for Laird which is key, as he was able to card on 68 on Thursday at Spyglass Hill, just like Glover. It will be interesting to see how he finishes today at Pebble, but he should be fine to play through the weekend. I expect him to get back near the top ten after Monterey, I just hope he picks it up a bit here on the front nine at Pebble today to give me a little more confidence for Sunday.
